Highway 89A (Cornville to Dry Creek)

This fast-track nine-mile project consisted of adding two lanes of new construction and reconstructing the existing two lanes. FNF was the General Contractor to ADOT for this $20.4 million project which was completed in September 2002.

This work was performed by FNF forces including substantial rock excavation (1,000,000 CY) with cuts up to 80’ within 20’ of the edge of the travel lane. This material was moved with a minimum of traffic interruption with the longest closure held to less than 30 minutes. FNF constructed two new three-span bridges and numerous box culverts for drainage. We also performed underground utility construction, onsite crushing of rock excavation to produce base course asphalt aggregates, including asphalt production and laydown, all slope mitigation, surveying and quality control.

Highway 89A (Dry Creek to Sedona), This fast-track four-mile project was done concurrently with the above Cornville to Dry Creek project with similar construction, two lanes to four lanes. The work, completed in November 2002, included rock excavation (successful blasting techniques occurred within the city limits of Sedona), grading, drainage, and paving for a new adjacent alignment, reconstruction of the existing alignment, construction of two new seven-span girder bridges over an existing wash, regrading and paving of connecting side roads, rock cut and slope mitigation, construction of landscaping, relocation of existing utilities, sidewalks, retaining walls, noise walls, new traffic signal, signing, striping, seeding and other incidental work for a contract amount totaling $16.1 million.

These Highway 89A projects received The Associated General Contractor’s Build Arizona Award.
