Jerome State Historical Park Improvements

ADOT’s Jerome State Historical Park Improvements Project, which was completed in the summer of 2002, provided additional visitor capacity, safety improvements, facilities for busses and recreational vehicles, and traffic flow improvements allowing all design features to maintain the historic and natural setting of this unique site. The following elements were included in the design project: expansion of the main parking area including area for handicapped and RV vehicles; "drop off" area; bus/RV parallel parking area; improvements to the main entrance; new contact station island; overflow parking improvements; tire ripper; and a bus turn-around. The project also included a new service road and employee parking; pavement preservation on the access road; guardrails for additional safety; improvement of the SR 89A intersection; new retaining walls; and investigation of the hazardous materials area. This project was selected for the 2002 APWA Project Award of the Year for Transportation Projects Less Than $2 Million.
