FNF San Simon Project Wins National Quality Asphalt Paving Award

January 25, 2012

Lanham, MD - The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) announced today that FNF Construction Inc. of Tempe, Ariz., has won a 2011 Quality in Construction Award for excellence in construction of an asphalt pavement. The company received its award at a special ceremony during the association’s 57th Annual Meeting in Palm Desert, Calif.

The Quality in Construction Award recognizes asphalt pavements of excellence. “NAPA selects the recipients of its paving awards using a known set of standards that have been shown to give a good result,” commented Kim Snyder, 2011 Chairman of the NAPA Board of Directors. “This award demonstrates the high quality of work that FNF Construction Inc. is achieving.”

FNF Construction won the award for its work on I-10 from MP 367.67 to 385.03 westbound and from 365.5 to 357.7 eastbound. The company milled the pavement and overlaid it with two lifts of asphalt pavement. Under the original contract and budget, FNF Construction was responsible for correcting the cross-slope on just two elevations of the road. When six more problem areas were found, the company worked with the Arizona Department of Transportation to fix those areas while keeping to the original budget. It used more reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) in the mixes, lowering the amount of asphalt cement that ADOT would have had to purchase for virgin mixes. FNF Construction produced a smooth roadway with eight elevations that now meet current safety design requirements.
