I-10 Luzena Road – San Simon

This project is located about 16 miles west of the Arizona/New Mexico State Line in Cochise County. The work consists of 126,000 tons of Milling and Replacement of the existing asphaltic concrete on Interstate 10. From the very start, this project was setup to achieve a high level of quality with an emphasis on partnering with all project stakeholders and the team has had numerous partnering and quality accomplishments.

At the beginning of construction, FNF recognized an issue with the rebar plan specifications at the San Simon Overpass. Working with ADOT in the field, FNF proposed a fix and resolved the issue in a short time which resulted in no loss to the overall schedule. On just the second day of paving with more than 4,000 tons, FNF was able to achieve close to the maximum quality bonus for both mix and compaction. After this great start, the project has been able to maintain this high level of quality, receiving a quality bonus on almost every day of paving.

Because of FNF's efficient paving on the I-10 Luzena Road to San Simon project, ADOT will save money on traffic control and flaggers and the traveling public can use the road without restriction sooner than expected. By starting this project with the intent to partner with a high level of quality, all project stakeholders have benefited.

This project was the recipient of the National Asphalt Pavement Association's Quality in Construction Award and the Associated General Contractor's Build Arizona Award for the over $10 Million Category.
