US 89 Reconstruction CMAR

The FNF Construction Team was selected as the Arizona Department of Transportation's CMAR contractor to reconstruct US 89 at MP 526.5 which was damaged in the February 2013 landslide. The project is located within the Navajo Nation in Coconino County, AZ.

FNF provided both preconstruction and construction services to excavate material from the existing cut on the east side of US 89, transporting the material to the base of the landslide, and constructing a rockfill buttress. The current alignment of US 89 at the slide was relocated about 60 ft east into the cut.

Key Project Team Members include: FNF (Matt Trembly, Project Manager; Byron Hubbard, Preconstruction Manager), Rummel (Carlos Gonzales, Estimator), ADOT (Mike Andazola Project Manager; Audra Merrick District Engineer), Designers (Lewis Ferguson with AECOM and Keith Dahlen with Kleinfelder) and Terracon (Don Clark).

Work also included blasting, placement of aggregate base, asphaltic concrete paving, constructing a maintenance access road for the buttress, installation of guardrail, and demolition of the existing road alignment.

The challenges of working on an active slide were efficiently managed through the innovative delivery process and the project was successfully completed early and within budget.  Construction began in July 2014 and completed on March 20, 2015 -  30 days ahead of schedule.  The road re-opened on March 27, 2015.
